Primitive Awareness Experience with Special Guest Instructor Paul Smith

May 25th - May 29th

This year we are delighted to have working with us the highly knowledgeable and talented Paul Smith. Paul specialises in Primitive Crafts and he will guide you with some truly fascinating and practical crafts.

Throughout this 5 day immersive course you will learn many things and craft exquisite accoutrements to take away and have greater knowledge for future use. We will delve into crafting bark containers,  tanning for skin pouches, friction fire lighting, trap and shelter construction, primitive cooking and food preparation, primitive weapons, and more! The course will provide you with a huge appreciation of Primitive Technology and is designed for people with little to no prior experience.

What to expect... upon arrival on Monday at 1100hrs you will be greeted and taken to our Headquarters where you will spend the majority of your time with us. Over a brew and a packed lunch we will have introductions and brief you on health and safety and the campsite rules. Afterwards you will be shown where you can pitch up your shelters for the next few days (this can be a tarp or small tent). Once settled in and your accommodations are set up, Paul will give you a brief insight into how he became involved with Primitive Technology. We will then embark on the first activity of the course, and at 1800hrs we will be looking to wind down and prepare dinner (included each night) before relaxing after a hard but enjoyable day. In the evenings there will be the opportunity to finish off projects and reflect upon the course content by the fireside which we always encourage.

Each morning which follows, we will have a debrief at 0900hrs under our canopy which will allow you and fellow participants the opportunity to carry out any personal admin at the well equipped campsite beforehand. You will be required to cater breakfasts and lunches on your own (breakfast to be done before the debrief and we will stop for lunch at around 1200hrs for up to an hour each day), but a fruit selection and refreshments will be available throughout the duration of the course and the campsite shop sell the essentials, and local amenities are quickly accessible via car should you need something, but please do this when not in session. On the last evening we will have some games (weather permitting) which will fit in nicely to the course contents. You and your fellow participants will pack up early before setting off on your journey's home as the course will sadly come to an end at midday on the last day.

This course is for anyone over the age of 14yrs but under 18's must be accompanied by an adult. A full itinery and kit list will be sent out to you upon booking. Remember, other than providing breakfast and lunch all other expenses are covered including use of tools and materials.
